Introduction
The Motorola Razr HD is an attractive well-built handset with a bright OLED screen, excellent battery life and is a good all round performer.
Design & Build
It has a glass front with a grey metal band around the edge and a Kevlar back plate in a chevron pattern. It weighs 146g and measures 131.9 x 67.9 x 8.4mm.
It runs on 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system, has a 1.5GHz processor, a 4.7 inch display, 16GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB, an 8MP camera and 1GB of RAM. Connectivity includes Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and DLNA as well as having 4G capabilities.
On the front of the handset is a bright and clear 4.7” screen with three software buttons for back, home and multitasking, an earpiece, an indicator light which flashes when you receive an email, text or voicemail and a 1.3MP front facing camera for video calling.
On the right hand edge is the power button, volume rocker and 3.5mm headphone jack. On the left the micro HDMI and micro USB port and the microSIM and microSD card trays. On the back is the 8MP camera, a flash and speaker and inside a 2530mAh battery.
At the top of the lock screen is a bar showing the battery level, signal strength and any active connections, underneath is a digital clock and a slider for turning the sound on or off and shortcuts to your phonebook, text messages and camera.
It comes with two homescreen but you can have up seven to fill with apps and widgets and you can make folders by dragging apps on top of each other. There is a dock near the bottom of the homescreen with shortcuts to your App Drawer, Phone, People, Text Messaging and Camera these can be customised to suit.
Press the home button whilst on the homescreen and you will see a thumbnail view of all your home screens. Just tap on one to go to it or touch and drag to reorder or remove it.   There are three circles on your home screen showing the time, date and any alarms, the weather and your battery level and by swiping across them brings up different information.
Near the top of each home screen there is a Google Now search bar in which you can type or speak queries or commands into and it will use the internet and the contents of your phone to come up with the best answer.
Contacts, Calling & Messaging
Contacts are accessed from the Peoples App which has three tabs along the top for Groups, People and Favourites and you can call from either the Peoples App or from the Phone App. The Phone App is a dial pad that supports smart dialling and at the bottom of the screen there is a magnifying glass to access your phonebook and a microphone for use with voice commands for texting or calling. You can go to your home screen and do anything else when you are on a call.
The Messaging app shows on-going conversations with a snapshot of the last message that was sent or received and your message appears in a grey box to the right of the screen whilst the message from the person you are talking to gets a blue box to the left of the screen.  Tap on the phone icon at the top of the screen to call the person or on the paperclip to add pictures or a video.
At the bottom of the screen is a text entry box that you can tap to bring up the keyboard that will make suggestions and corrections as you type.
Camera
There is a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera and an easy to use 8 megapixel main camera with flash and autofocus. You can tap to autofocus, adjust the exposure, add location information and choose from a few different scene modes or effects.
Photos are accessed through the Gallery App and you can stream them over DLNA, share them via Bluetooth, text, copy or add effects.
Video
The Motorola Razr HD has a full HD 1080p video camera that can shoot at 30fps and you can adjust the exposure, add an effect or choose from  audio and visual modes, such as Slow Motion and Wind Reduction.
The handset comes with YouTube pre-installed and there is a video editor which enables you to put together videos from either clips that you’ve filmed on the phone or those that you’ve copied across to it and you can connect the handset to a TV or monitor. 
Music
Play Music arranges music by album, genre, song or by recently played and you can create playlists and upload up to 20,000 songs to the cloud and stream them on the player.
Battery & Connectivity
The 2530mAh battery will last at least two days with 24 hours of talk time or 286 hours of standby.
Maps and App
There’s Google Maps on board, Google Navigation and QuickOffice which can open, edit and create text documents and spread sheets and can create things in various Microsoft Word formats. It also comes with SmartAction which let you automate certain actions in certain situations.  For example you could set it to automatically turn GPS on and open your sat nav whenever you activate car mode, or launch a music player when you connect a pair of headphones. There’s Google Plus and other apps available from Google Play.
Verdict
The Motorola Razr HD is a brilliant Android smartphone with 4G (LTE) capability, a beautiful 4.7” display, impressively loud speakers and an excellent battery life.
